Summer, winter or 4-season – What tires should I choose for my car.

The right choice of tires on your vehicle is vital, both for your safety and for driving comfort in different weather conditions.

Tires are the only part of the car that comes into contact with the road, so we need to choose the ones that ensure the right driving conditions in terms of braking and traction depending on the weather conditions.

Based on the weather conditions, you can choose between 3 types of tires:

1. Summer tires, which are designed for the warmer seasons
2. The winter tires designed for colder climates and icy road surfaces
3. All season tires, which offer a balance of safety and economy all year round

The ideal for correct behavior of the car and to increase the efficiency is to have 2 quad tires (summer and winter), as the summer ones do their job perfectly during the warm months of the year, while the winter ones are the most ideal for cold and rainy months of the year.

On the other hand, all season tires seem to be a safe choice, since they adapt to both summer and winter weather conditions, but this does not mean that you get the maximum performance of the tires in all 4 seasons. After several tests, it seems that perhaps the All Season outperforms the winter tires in wet conditions. However, winter ones ensure greater safety in snowy conditions.

Temperature an important factor!

An important factor to choose your tires, is the temperature that usually has the place you drive. Winter ones behave excellently below 10°C due to the material they are made of, while summer ones can easily take you off-road in those temperatures as they are built for high temperature grip.

What do we choose in Greece?

In our country, most people choose summer tires, because of the lower costs they usually have, but also because in our country there is very little time when temperatures below 10°C are observed. However, if someone can afford both winter and summer tires and make changes between them based on the season, it is the ideal scenario. And to be honest, in the long run you also win financially, since your tires are used with a low wear rate due to being used at the right time.
